Level: Director
Starting Salary Range: $125K - $146K
Work Location: Remote (Victoria Preferred)

To help support our continued growth, RaceRocks is seeking a collaborative, energetic, and creative Director of Technology with exceptional interpersonal skills and a desire to develop and lead a talented team through change. From attracting the best applicants to engaging employees, the Director of Technology will play a key role in driving the next phase of growth at RaceRocks with a people-first approach and developing new business opportunities.
This is an exceptional opportunity to oversee and help shape the strategy for the technical team at RaceRocks. This role will be responsible for ensuring alignment with the business needs, working with leadership and customers to define and develop the technical vision and strategy, and ensuring that the technological resources meet the company’s short and long term needs.
The ideal candidate will be a confident and empathetic leader with demonstrated experience collecting and synthesizing input from stakeholders, identifying opportunities for innovation, proposing creative and pragmatic solutions.

- You are experienced in systems design and are familiar with game engines such as Unity 3D or Unreal Engine.
What will you do?
- Lead the technology strategy and R&D vision for the company
- Understand the business problems to be solved, and provide technical direction around the definition and technical delivery of projects.
- Work with the IT/Security team to define, communicate and enforce necessary standards and regulatory compliances, particularly in relation to security and privacy.
- Identify new technology trends and opportunities
- Report technical progress of projects to stakeholders as required.
- Collaborate with project management to ensure the technical team meets schedules, budget, resourcing and technical quality targets; this includes third party technical teams and IT departments.
- Work with business development teams and customers to create proposals, respond to RFPS, and identify opportunities.
- Serve as the standard escalation point for the project management team for any project technical risks, costs, and duration.
- Lead a highly-performant team of developers
- Nurture an empathetic, kind, and open culture that enables commitment and innovation
- Act as a custodian for resources managed by this role, ensuring sustainable and prudent use of resources
- Champion change, challenge existing mental models and ways of doing, leading change that supports cross-functional collaboration
- Understand the business direction in order to act as a trusted advisor to the the leadership team, constructively engage in strategy discussions, and proactively propose innovative technological approaches to build value and scalability in our products and operations
- Evaluating and advising on proposals as required
Qualifications / Skills:
- Deep technology expertise including experience managing development teams.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in formal management or leadership roles.
- Extensive industry experience with Unity 3D (Also Unreal Engine is a plus).
- C# programming experience (Also C++ programming experiences a plus).
- Experience developing and optimizing scenes or game systems for performance in Unity 3D or Unreal Engine.
- Experience with Git or other revision control systems.
- Excellent technical problem-solving and communication skills.
- Excellent collaboration/coaching skills with the ability to arrive at constructive outcomes that align with RaceRocks3d values and needs.
- Strong knowledge of change management and how to apply those concepts while navigating/recognizing your role is new to your team and the organization.
- Willingness to be flexible and adapt to emerging needs.
- Ability to reach out for support from colleagues when needed.
- A detail-oriented mindset with a strong ability to multitask.
- Experience with GSuite, JIRA, collaboration tools.
- Experience with security and compliance best practices
- Customer success experience.
- Software as a Service product experience.
Education*:
- A degree in Computer Science or related field.

RaceRocks is a remote-first company with team members across Canada, with an office for optional use in Victoria, BC. Team members are required to be available for team building and collaboration during core operating hours of 9:00 am to 2:00 pm Pacific Time. Outside of core working hours, we offer flexibility to support work-life balance. Although our HQ is in Victoria, BC we are open to hiring candidates from nearly anywhere in Canada. At this time, we do not have the infrastructure to support hiring candidates from Quebec or to hire/support working internationally.
